2015 INTERNATIONAL BOOK AWARDS Medical Mystery Novel Set in Alaska, SPIRIT MADE SMALLER by Phillip Douglas [Video]

SEATTLE AUTHOR PHILLIP DOUGLAS RECEIVES MORE TOP HONORS FROM 2015 INTERNATIONAL BOOK AWARDS

Medical Mystery Novel Set in Alaska, “Spirit Made Smaller”, Only Entrant to Take Home Double Medals

Phillip Douglas

Seattle, Washington --- USA Book News has announced the winners and finalists of The 2015 International Book Awards (IBA). Over 300 honorees were named in 80+ categories. Spirit Made Smaller, by Seattle writer Phillip Douglas, was the only recipient of double international wins: a gold-medal award-winner in the Fiction - Religious category and award-finalist in Fiction - Cross Genre. The spellbinding medical murder mystery was singled out from over 1,200 entries submitted by mainstream and independent authors, as well as publishers from around the world.

The novel was previously accorded double “Finalist” wins in the same two categories late last year by the 2014 USA Best Book Awards, from a field of over 2,000 entrants. Set in Alaska, it can be read as multiple genres: on one level it is a mesmerizing medical suspense mystery. On another, it is a spiritual journey (which is always a part of any medical thriller). Finally, it may also be identified as “speculative” fiction, as it covers national and international events that readers hear about on an almost daily basis through their news source of choice. Spirit Made Smaller is a poignant story of loss and relationships as Dr. Gharrett Graywood attempts to solve the mystery behind his eleven-year-old child’s debilitative disease and death.

This is Douglas’ first novel – the result of seven years of meticulous research. Although the narrative is fictional, the settings in a Spirit Made Smaller are very real and can be viewed in the photo gallery on the book’s website, http://spiritmadesmaller.com or on YouTube athttp://youtu.be/iNwGJ6Ixysw. Douglas is presently at work on his next novel, a suspense mystery spanning locations from the Oregon Coast to Europe and Indonesia

Spirit Made Smaller is available through Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble, and at other select book stores. It is also available in eBook editions for Kobo, Kindle and Nook. For more information, go to http://spiritmadesmaller.com or http://youtu.be/iNwGJ6Ixysw.

PRESS RELEASE: CREATION THE CHRONICLES OF ARA by Joel Eisenberg & Stephen Hillard

"The Chronicles of Ara" Defines "Creation" for Incorgnito Press

Joel Eisenberg

(LOS ANGELES) "The Chronicles of Ara" is a heralded new epic fantasy novel series, written by Joel Eisenberg and Stephen Hillard, published by Incorgnito Books' speculative fiction imprint, Topos Books.

What are the long-term repercussions if all of creativity, and invention, was inspired by a corrupted muse? Would there be an endgame?

Screenwriter-producer Joel Eisenberg ("April Showers"), who nearly ten years ago discovered a "lost" John Steinbeck archive that led to several high-priced auctions, and Texas entrepreneur Steve Hillard, author of the controversial "Mirkwood: A Novel About JRR Tolkien" and whose company, Council Tree, recently closed a $3 billion DISH Network deal, have teamed to pen the eight-part epic fantasy series, "The Chronicles of Ara." The first volume, "Creation," launched March 15, 2015 at a standing-room-only event at Vroman's Bookstore in Pasadena, CA. The buzz has been such that the writers, and the series, have attained a sizable social network, usually reserved for the most popular of authors, nearing a collective 35,000,000 connections.

In 2011, Hillard pitched his self-published novel, "Mirkwood", to Eisenberg with the intent of producing a feature film based on the work. The two formed a partnership and the project was substantially expanded. Eisenberg and Hillard are presently developing a television project based on the upcoming novels, and are represented by Creative Artists Agency.

The new books are considered companions to Hillard's earlier work. "Ara" will study the influences of darker fantasists, such as Poe, Lovecraft, Mary Shelley and others, authors of rare insight whose works tended to reach their readers on a primal level, as they themselves toiled within that realm.

"It's an ambitious series," says Hillard. "Through eight books we will attempt to elucidate the origins and repercussions of artistic creation, within the conceit that all the world's
Stephen Hillard
artistry has been manipulated by a singular, corrupted muse."

"The Chronicles of Ara" follows the fictional discovery of a missing book of "Beowulf", authenticated by J.R.R. Tolkien and a team of academics, which sets in motion a series of events that years later will expose the existence of the corrupted muse and her tragic plan for all of humanity.

"The Chronicles of Ara" saga takes place in several time periods: "Pre-Genesis" (the age of the dragons, following a regular fantasy trope), the more recent past - as the featured authors are inspired to comprise their greatest works - and the near-future.

Incorgnito Books was formed in January, 2015. The publishing concern is owned and operated by Michael Conant, and is based out of Los Angeles, California.
"The Chronicles of Ara" is presently available on amazon.com and select bookstores.

PRESS RELEASE: TRAVELS WITH CHARLIZE by David R. Gross

David R. Gross Shares a Captivating Tale of His Yearlong Journey in Discovering How to Accept and Craft a New Life

Seattle, Washington --- Well known Seattle author David R. Gross practiced veterinary medicine for ten years. He returned to school and earned his PhD in cardiovascular physiology; then he taught and did research in that field for more than three decades. After retiring, he and his beloved wife Rosalie looked forward to traveling, writing, and focusing on social action causes together. In Travels with Charlize: In Search of Living Alone, Dr. Gross tells a gentle and open story of recovery after the death of his wife of fifty-two years. He knows he must go forward and face a new future, but that road carries rough spots. Memories spring up to hold him back. Revisiting friends reminds him of who no longer accompanies him. Home, to which he must return, still stores a profusion of painful memories. It is the presence of Charlize, his newly adopted rescue dog, that keeps Gross steady and willing to see a brighter tomorrow around the bend. Based on a compilation of chronicles from his popular blog, this compelling and enchanting book is scheduled to hit the shelves next month.

The dog loving couple had talked about getting a new pet, but with Rosalie’s diagnosis of lung cancer, those plans were put on hold. After she succumbed to illness in 2013, David adopted Charlize, a German shepherd rescue dog with problems of her own. He bought a travel trailer, closed his house and the duo started their travels. The two troubled souls embarked on a yearlong journey visiting parks and vistas, rain forests and deserts, family and old friends, to discover how to accept and craft a new life with each other’s help. David captured their travels in an online blog, posting photos and feelings on www.docdavesvoice.com. The traveling pair’s adventures also became the basis for a column in My Edmonds News that captivated a devoted following.

Travels with Charlize will be available in early February through Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble, and independent bookstores. The Kindle e-book edition is currently available for purchase, soon to be followed by versions for Kobo and Nook. Dr. David Gross has published over ninety papers in refereed scientific journals and over a hundred abstracts in proceedings of scientific meetings. He co-edited three multi-authored textbooks and his single author text, Animal Models in Cardiovascular Research, can be found in most medical libraries. Since retirement, Dr. Gross has been busy writing both fiction and non-fiction. His published books include Manhunt (historical fiction), Animals Don’t Blush (a memoir of his first year in veterinary practice) and the soon-to-be rereleased, Succeeding As A Student (a self-help guide to efficient and effective studying, learning and test taking). Press Release: EMPTY ABUNDANCE; Finding Meaning Through Mindful Giving by Tim McCarthy with Author Interview [Video]

Empty Abundance: Finding Meaning Through Mindful Giving

Billboards, TV commercials, radio jingles—they all sell us the same story. “You can buy happiness! The more money you make, the fuller your life will be.” So we buy the shiny new sports car, the sleek designer wardrobe, the gorgeous two-story house. We work hard and make a handsome profit from our labors…and yet we can still feel empty inside.

We’ve all been sold a bill of goods by the dominant consumer culture: that we can spend our way to happiness. In his new book, Tim McCarthy reveals why this simply isn’t true. Like so many, Tim spent years chasing the dream of material wealth, only to find that the promised rewards were empty and unsatisfying. In a voice that is instantly relatable, he recounts his personal journey of frozen assets, lost jobs, and liquidity events, speaking candidly about his own struggles with depression.

Empty Abundance is the story of one man’s path to true abundance—the kind that is not reliant on wealth or material gain.

Press Release & Trailer: APOCALYPSE, HOW TO SURVIVE A GLOBAL CRISIS by Dan Martin

Apocalypse, How to Survive a Global Crisis has recently been the hot topic of mainstream networks such as CNN, Yahoo News, MSNBC, Esquire Men's magazine and many others, as well as getting featured in the Frankfurt Book Fair this October. I've consulted as an expert on AMC’s "The Walking Dead," National Geographic’s "Doomsday Preppers" and TNT’s hit show "Falling Skies." I've appeared on The Travel Channel's "Paranormal Paparazzi" and various radio shows including The Jim Marrs Show.

Will the world, as we know it, end in our time? It’s the intention of this book and the will of its author to give you what you’ll need IF it does. Spiritual prophecies, scientific predictions, epic storms/floods, record temperatures, terrorist attacks, viral pandemics, worldwide economic/government collapse, solar flares, electrical grid failure, climate change, earthquakes, polar shift, peak oil, meteor impacts, WW3, super tsunamis, alien invasion, how the government’s preparing and why we should too. This mind-gripping, action-packed book has it all and teaches how you and your family can survive it all.

“A complete DIY, self-help guide not only for the end-times, but any global or local crisis, which we seem to be experiencing plenty of lately.”

Written by Desert Storm veteran and natural catastrophe relief organizer, Dan Martin lived off the grid, self-sufficiently, not seeing one other human for six years. He now consults, lectures and teaches do-it-yourself style alternative energies, renewable fuels, natural building methods and sustainable living around the world. Martin presents eye-opening views of humanity during times of turmoil; and his insight into possible future events is breathtaking, at the very least. The book makes you wonder, is the end closer than we think? Are any of us truly prepared?

THE VOID by Marta Moran-Bishop

Does Altori suffer from a multitude of mental illnesses or is something stranger lurking in the
darkness? Her affliction could certainly be described as delusional paranoid schizophrenia with a tendency to inflict wounds upon herself.

The author takes a great deal of time and effort into stimulating the reader's senses, but ultimately where is she leading us in this short prequel? Ultimately, "Brigadoon" and then "The Knowing" came to mind, but the again are we just eaves dropping into the mind of a mental patient?

Marta Moran Bishop
The Void is an absolutely brilliant mind-bending story that will keep you guessing!

PRESS RELEASE: KILLING WALL STREET by Sanjay Sanghoee

Killing Wall Street: A look at America’s growing financial unrest Banker, author takes deadly aim at corporate greed in new thriller.

NEW YORK CITY – From the corporate greed that fueled the collapse of the economy to the rise of movements like Occupy Wall Street, the last several years have seen the average American consistently at odds with Corporate America, and growing anger beneath the surface with a rigged financial system and exploding income inequality.

Investment banker-turned-author Sanjay Sanghoee rips into Wall Street and takes America to the boiling point in his new corporate thriller, Killing Wall Street (Argo-Navis, a division of Perseus Books, June 2013).

Killing Wall Street, a novel about the frightening power of an ordinary citizen’s rage, follows Catherine, a working class single mother living on the edge of a breakdown. After the financial crisis ruins what little is left of her life, she decides that she has had enough, and takes a shocking revenge against the system that has victimized her. As Catherine targets and kills bankers, lawyers, and CEOs with escalating fury, an FBI Agent races against the clock to catch the ultimate anonymous killer. When he discovers that the victims were all hiding a financial conspiracy, he thinks he is close, but the biggest shock of all is yet to come.

Sanghoee describes Killing Wall Street as a strong statement about modern America with a slyly populist and feminist flavor. The novel was inspired by Sanghoee’s time at leading investment banks and hedge funds in the 1990s and 2000s, during which he got an inside look at how the 1 percent of America works, lives, and connives. As corporate scandals rocked the nation, Sanghoee realized that corporations and wealthy individuals were gaming the system and leading the country on a path of destruction.

“My goal is to make a statement about the state of America today and to address the needs and concerns of all Americans, not just the 1 percent,” Sanghoee says. “Corporate corruption is destroying our country and people need to speak about it,so I thought I’d do that in this novel.”

In an interview, Sanghoee can discuss:
- Sanjay Sanghoee on bringing social issues to light through fiction writing
- The new feminist manifesto: Women taking on male-dominated corporate America and greed
- Why our system of Darwinian capitalism doesn’t work and what could be done to fix it
-Solving big-picture problems: Income inequality, crumbling infrastructure, tax abuse, healthcare and the debt trap
- Rethinking America: How to balance the individual profit-motive with the common good
Sanjay Sanghoee is “the banker who came in from the cold.” After publishing a hard-hitting novel, Merger, a corporate thriller from Forge (St. Martin’s Press), he began writing about business and politics. The novel was praised by critics, including at Chicago Tribune and BARRON’s, and set Sanghoee on the path to becoming a commentator and a vocal opponent of corporate excess.

Sanjay Sanghoee
Today, he blogs regularly for the Huffington Post and other publications on many hot-button topics, including the dysfunction in Washington, Wall Street reform, tax policy, corporate crime and gun control. Sanghoee has offered unique takes on each issue and is not afraid of taking a stand on what he believes is right. For more information, please visit www.killingwallstreet.com

PRESS RELEASE: VENGEANCE IS NOW by Scott D. Roberts

SCOTT D. ROBERTS DEBUTS HIS FIRST EROTIC-THRILLER AND JOINS THE RANK OF NEW MALE EROTIC NOVELISTS

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – With the New York Times bestseller 50 Shades of Grey becoming such an immense success, interest in erotica has grown. In the past, most male erotica writers (aka as “romantica”) would write under female pseudonyms not only to attract what
is a predominantly female marketplace, but also to protect their identities — erotica didn’t always have mainstream appeal. But with the success of Shades and other big sellers like Jennifer Cruisie’s Tell Me Lies, authors like Scott D. Roberts have not only stepped out of the shadows under their true genders but have also kept their pen names.

Roberts released his first novel Vengeance is Now, which is defined by the author as an “erotic-thriller.” The book takes readers into the life of Tate Holloway, a disgraced former police detective and secret gigolo, who goes on the run after his arch nemesis and serial killer “The Eye” successfully frames him for murder.

“First, erotica has broadened and is no longer a well-defined genre,” said Roberts. “Many other genres including my book Vengeance is Now is primarily a thriller and mystery about a serial killer where the protagonist Tate Holloway happens to be a private investigator and a male prostitute. With the economy being what it has been, it’s not unusual for people to‘moonlight’; but in this case, the second ‘job’ involves sex and adds the erotic elements to the book.”

Since many male erotic writers often disguise their genders under female pseudonyms, Roberts felt that with the rise in interest and mainstream acceptance of erotica as an accepted literary genre, why hide behind a woman’s name or even hide at all.

“It’s slowly becoming more acceptable and credible to write erotic action,” said Roberts.“With the worldwide success of novels like Shades, resistance by the reviewer community is crumbling. I am trying to build a career as a serious artist and adding the erotic element means a greater chance for market success. I don’t see anything wrong with it. Most people have sex and enjoy reading about it. I think a legitimate story with erotic elements offers the perfect mix to satisfy readers who like their action to be sexy, too.”

Roberts comes from the Hollywood film community where he wrote, produced, and co-directed the award-winning documentary, “Gas Hole,” narrated by Peter Gallagher. He has written several screenplays and has had projects optioned or bought by Paramount, Columbia, MGM, EUE/Screen Gems, and New Line.
“Making a film is such a collaborative, creative process with many people’s hands in the cookie jar,” said Roberts. “Writing the book allowed me to escape into Tate’s world and enjoy the process of sharing the words on the paper with an audience. When you hand in a screenplay for a film or TV show, you have no clue how the final product will stray from your vision. 3L allowed me the freedom to do what I do, but also assist in the final product in a very ‘artist-friendly’ environment. This has truly been one of the great creative
relationships I’ve ever encountered.”

Vengeance is Now launches nationally on Amazon and into bookstores in May. Pre-sales and early release copies are available on the book website at www.vengeanceisnow.com or the 3L Publishing website at www.3LPublishing.com. The eBook version will be available on Kindle, Nook and iBook.

PRESS RELEASE: HOLD STILL by Cherry Smythe

Hold Still

Hold Still is set in 1860s London and Paris, and is a fictional account of a short period in the life of Joanna Hiffernan, the muse and model of both James Whistler and Gustave Courbet.

Cherry Smyth has created an enthralling picture of what must have been a remarkable woman. How did a young girl, just seventeen when she met Jim Whistler, admittedly with beautiful red hair, and a vivid personality, inspire talented painters to create wonderful paintings such as: Whistler’s Symphony in White, No.1: The White Girl and Courbet’s La Belle Irlandaise?

Hold Still tells the story from Jo’s point of view. Her father instils in her a sense of self and Jo grows up to be a free spirit, a suffragette avant la lettre. Jo draws you in on her journey and her growing sense of her own artistic identity.

The novel offers a wonderful insight into the artistic process; the rivalry and at the same time the supportive camaraderie. At the heart of the story is love, which shapes Jo’s life: She loves him looking at her, feels as if she is made for his gaze, is made anew in it.

Read Hold Still for an interpretation of Courbet’s notorious The Origin of the World’s genesis, with a highly plausible explanation of the absent head and face of the model.

Cherry Smyth

Cherry Smyth’s debut poetry collection, When the Lights Go Up, was published by Lagan Press in 2001, and her most recent poetry collection is Test, Orange, available from Pindrop Press. Cherry was guest editor of Magma Poetry Magazine in 2012 and poetry editor of Brand Literary Magazine from 2005 to 2011.

Her poems and short fiction have won prizes and have been published in many journals and anthologies. She has been awarded a Royal Literary Fellowship for 2014.

She has been teaching poetry writing in the Creative Writing Department of the University of Greenwich since 2004.

She also writes for the visual art magazines Modern Painters, Art Monthly, Art Review and Circa, and her work as an art critic informs and shapes Hold Still, her first published novel.

Hold Still , 253 pages, ISBN 9781907320361, £12.99, €15.00, $21.00, is published by Holland Park Press, suite 8, 116 Gloucester Terrace, London W2 6HP, UK.
